I know it has been a long time now, but another possibility for installing Skyrim on Mac is with the Porting Kit.

Another vote for the Porting Kit. Wine and the open source community rules. I've used PK and also bought Crossover -- between these two I am usually covered when Steam makes a major update and breaks everything so nothing works until users and open source people find workarounds. My game runs decently except occasionally I get the WIndows blue screen of death, lol never thought I'd see that on a Mac.

Making Skyrim work on a Mac is doable but not simple, prepare for the learning curve. Once it's set up you can add mods from Steam, or learn to download them from Nexus and install them yourself. Be prepared to learn what Windows directories look like on your Mac, because you will be going inside those to tweak and test.

You're going to have to look at a few guides online because they're all outdated, none of them wlll have your exact specs, and you're going to have to figure it out. Like owning a vintage VW van, you're never going to find your exact parts in one nice package, but you can find what you need and get that beautiful thing to run.

Bottom line: start by finding people at PT and bookmarking everything related, from Steam to Reddit to Crossover and everywhere. Good luck, it's possible. Did manage to get it to boot up once after renaming client blob. However, now that I've deleted every file other than steam exe and steam apps there is no client blob file to rename and steam is still stuck in the update loop the moment it re-downloads all files.

For now I'm going to ignore the update notification, as it lets me play games despite saying I need to update. I don't often reboot my computer so for now I at least have the symptom taken care of. I just need to find the cause. I don't have a choice.

Opening steam leads straight to the update letting it play out, loops the update process endlessly. Canceling means restarting steam and the loop begins again.

Opening the steam client several times, and then opening it again as one of the updating clients was making a download allowed me to access my account. Good luck to anyone else who hits this problem. It looks like you'll have to do this every time you restart for now, but at least we can get in for now.
